Honor Cargill-Martin


Honor Cargill-Martin is a classicist, art historian and author from London.

After graduating with a first class degree in Classical Archeology and Ancient History from Oxford, she gained masters’ degrees in Ancient History from Oxford and in the Art History of the Italian Renaissance from the Courtauld Institute in London. She is currently working on a DPhil in Ancient Roman History at Christ Church College Oxford. Her first non-fiction book, a biography of the ancient Roman empress Messalina, was published by Head of Zeus in May 2023. It was The Sunday Times book of the week and received positive reviews from the NYT, The Telegraph and the TLS, among others.

Honor has been publishing fiction for children and teenagers since she was sixteen. She is currently working on a number of children’s non-fiction titles that bring history’s most extraordinary characters, and especially its women, back to life.
