Born in Dudley in the West Midlands, Dave Lowe has lived and worked around the world. He taught English for four
years in a high school for disadvantaged kids in Istanbul, and has worked in Malaysia and Australia.
He’s 36, married
with two daughters, aged 6 and 3, and is currently working as the manager of an English language school.
He wrote
a children’s novel for his English degree in creative writing and was awarded 1st class honours, and he also had a
pet hamster when he was younger, but he didn’t talk so much.
Possible Pets
1. Aadvark
2. Monkey or chimp of some kind (not a baboon)
3. Bee
4. Husky dog (and a pair of rollerblades, so I don’t have to walk to school any more)
5. Medium-sized octopus (and medium-sized swimming pool)
6. Hairy-nosed wombat
My mum folded the list and slipped it into her jeans pocket.
Then she went to the pet shop and came back with a hamster.’
Unlike his hamster, Ben is no genius. So when ‘Stinky’, who cannot only talk but is pretty sarcastic for a hamster,
offers to help with his homework Ben’s family and teachers are stunned by his sudden improvement.
But when his suspicious Maths teacher, Beardy McCreedy, accuses Ben of cheating everything starts to go horribly
wrong. It takes brains, bravery, a little bit of wisdom, and the best pet in the world to put things right.
This is the first in a brand new series soon to be followed by MY HAMSTER’S AN ASTRONAUT and MY
HAMSTER’S A SPY.
