Carmen Reid grew up on a farm deep in the Scottish countryside. As a result, she is slightly terrified of horses, cows and even sheep, but loves books, cities and fancy department stores.
Having decided to become an author at the age of eight, she's been writing ever since. Her early diaries (mainly about favorite jam flavours and which of her two sisters was the most annoying) are particularly riveting.
Although she's written five books for grown ups, Carmen was itching to write for younger readers, especially as she now has two little bookworms of her own. Her new stories are set in the glitzy but bitchy world of a very posh 'school for young ladies' in Edinburgh. They are partly inspired by the four years she spent at boarding school when she was 'the tallest, youngest, shyest and generally weirdest' person in her class.
Carmen lives in Glasgow, Scotland, with one husband, two children, a tiny Jack Russell called Jimmy and three goldfish. When she's not writing, she's usually thinking about writing, which means that her children are used to asking her everything twice, very slowly and in a loud voice.
